बेळगावच्या कन्येने विदेशात उमटवला कर्तृत्वाचा ठसा!

शिक्षण, क्रीडा, साहित्य, संस्कृती, वैद्यकीय अभियांत्रिकी, स्थापत्यकला, तंत्रज्ञान, फॅशन आदी क्षेत्रांमधील आपली उल्लेखनीय कामगिरी आणि यशाद्वारे अनिवासीय भारतीयांनी बेळगावच्या नावलौकिकात मोठी भर घातली असून अशाच यशस्वी मंडळींपैकी एक आहेत बेळगावच्या उच्च पदवीधर (पीएचडी) डॉ. रीना भाटिया…

बेळगावमधील प्रसिद्ध व्यावसायिक कुटुंबातील असलेल्या डॉ. रीना भाटिया या हिंदवाडीच्या रहिवासी आहेत. ज्या युनायटेड स्टेट्स ऑफ अमेरिका म्हणजे अमेरिकेमध्ये नामवंत उद्योजक आणि व्यवसाय मालक म्हणून कार्यरत आहेत. त्यांचे आई -वडील रमेश भाटिया लहान भाऊ अमित भाटिया आणि त्याचे कुटुंब हिंदवाडी, बेळगाव येथे राहतात. कॅम्प येथील सेंट मेरीज हायस्कूलमध्ये माध्यमिक शिक्षण आणि गोगटे कॉलेज ऑफ कॉमर्समध्ये पीयूसी प्रथम व द्वितीय वर्षाचे शिक्षण पूर्ण केल्यानंतर 1994 मध्ये रीना उच्च शिक्षणासाठी अमेरिकेमध्ये गेल्या. तेथील इंडियाना मधील ट्राइस्टेट विद्यापीठातून व्यवस्थापन आणि विपणनाची पदवी संपादन केल्यानंतर त्यांनी कांही वर्ष काम केले आणि मग मेरीलँड विद्यापीठातून त्यांनी ‘सार्वजनिक धोरण’ या विषयात मास्टर्स पदवी मिळविली. त्यानंतर अधिक अभ्यासासाठी त्या बेबसन महाविद्यालयात गेल्या. पुढे रीना भाटिया यांनी 2019 मध्ये वाल्डेन विद्यापीठातून ‘माहिती व्यवस्थापन प्रणाली’ या विषयात डॉक्टरेट (पीएचडी) पदवी संपादन केली.

वयाच्या अवघ्या 15 व्या वर्षी रीना यांनी आपल्या वडिलांना मला उच्च शिक्षणासाठी मुंबईला जायचे आहे असे सांगितले. त्यावेळी तिच्या वडिलांनी तुला खरंच उच्च शिक्षणासाठी जायचे असेल तर जा पण अमेरिकेला जा असे चेष्टेत उत्तर दिले. मात्र छोट्या रीनाने आपल्या वडिलांचे हे उत्तर गांभीर्याने घेत त्या दृष्टीने तयारी सुरू केली. वयाच्या 17 व्या वर्षी मुंबईला (तेंव्हाचे बॉम्बे) गेलेल्या रीना यांनी त्या ठिकाणी योग्य प्रक्रियेतून जात संबंधीत सर्व परीक्षा दिल्या. पुढे अमेरिकेतील ॲडमिशनच्या कांही ऑफर आल्यामुळे त्या आपल्या वडिलांसोबत चेन्नईला (तेेंव्हाचे मद्रास) गेल्या. या संदर्भात बेळगाव लाईव्हशी बोलताना डॉ. रीना भाटिया म्हणाल्या की, आम्ही मद्रासला गेलो आणि आवश्यक सर्व कागदोपत्री सोपस्कार उरकून परत आलो. परंतु त्यानंतर संबंधित कार्यालयाकडून कोणतेच प्रत्युत्तर न आल्यामुळे आम्ही तो विषय विसरून गेलो होतो. मात्र एक दिवस अचानक मला ॲडमिशन मिळाल्याचे पत्र आले आणि मी अत्यानंदाने धावत वडिलांना भेटण्यासाठी गेले. त्यावेळी माझे वडील त्यांच्या कार्यालयात एका ग्राहकासोबत बसले होते. मी त्यांना पत्र दाखवून माझी ॲडमिशनसाठी निवड झाल्याचे सांगितले. त्यावेळी माझ्या वडिलांची पहिली प्रतिक्रिया होती ‘कुठल्या मूर्खाने तुझी ॲडमिशनसाठी निवड केली’. कारण अवघ्या 17 वर्षाच्या मुलीची ॲडमिशनसाठी निवड केली जाणार नाही असा त्यांचा समज होता. शब्दाचे पक्के असलेल्या रीना यांच्या वडिलांनी मग आवश्यक सर्व ती व्यवस्था केली आणि अमेरिकेला भरारी घेणाऱ्या रीना यांचा नवा जीवन प्रवास सुरु झाला.

अमेरिकेच्या भूमीवर टाकलेले पहिले पाऊल आणि तेथील आपल्या 30 वर्षाच्या जीवन प्रवासाबद्दल बोलताना डॉ. रीना म्हणाल्या की, अमेरिकेत पाऊल ठेवल्यानंतर मी अत्यानंदीत तर झालेच शिवाय सर्व कांही नवीन असल्यामुळे उत्साहीतही झाले होते. मात्र 6 महिन्यानंतर मला पुन्हा घरची ओढ लागली, तो काळ अतिशय अवघड होता. विशेष करून खाण्याच्या बाबतीत कारण घरी पूर्णपणे शाकाहारी असल्यामुळे रीना यांना त्या ठिकाणी सॅलेड्स आणि लिटसीवर आपली भूक भागवावी लागत होती. आणखी एक मोठी समस्या म्हणजे तेथील थंड वातावरण. त्यावेळी जीवनात पहिल्यांदा सर्वत्र बर्फवृष्टी होताना पाहून माझ्या आनंदाला पारावार उरला नव्हता असे रीना यांनी सांगितले.

सध्याच्या घडीला रीना यांच्या मालकीच्या दोन कंपन्या असून प्रपोजल हेल्पर या प्रस्ताव मदतनीस संस्थेच्या त्या संस्थापक आणि बी-डॅक्स या कंपनीच्या सीईओ आहेत. त्यांची जगातील अमेरिका भारत मेक्सिको व संयुक्त अमिरात अशा चार देशांमध्ये कार्यालय आणि कर्मचारीवर्ग आहे. छोट्या व्यावसायिकांना मदत करताना त्यांच्या संस्थेने आजतागायत 3000 प्रस्ताव लिहिले आहेत. ज्याद्वारे रीना यांच्या ग्राहकांना जवळपास 3000 अब्ज डॉलर्स इतक्या किमतीची कंत्राटे मिळाली आहेत. एवढेच नाही तर आम्ही आमचा उत्कर्ष साधण्याबरोबरच इतर व्यवसाय वाढण्यासाठी देखील मदत केली आहे. ज्यामुळे रोजगाराच्या संधी उपलब्ध होण्याद्वारे आम्ही एक प्रकारे त्या समुदायाला मदत केली आहे असे सांगून रीना पुढे म्हणाल्या की मी ज्यावेळी बेळगाव सोडून गेले त्यावेळी येथे फारशा संधी नव्हत्या आणि म्हणून स्थानिक युवकांना रोजगाराच्या संधी उपलब्ध करून देण्यासाठी कार्यालय स्थापण्याचा निर्णय मी घेतला. कामासाठी लोकांनी घर सोडून जाऊ नये, आपल्या कुटुंबापासून दूर राहू नये असे मला वाटते. त्यासाठी मी इथे बेळगावमध्येच रोजगाराच्या संधी उपलब्ध करण्याचा निर्णय घेतला. त्या दृष्टीने माझी बेळगावातील मोहीम सुरू झाली आणि आता लवकरच तिचा विस्तार करण्याचा आमचा विचार आहे.

डॉ. रीना भाटिया यांच्या प्रमुख यशांपैकी एक म्हणजे अमेरिकेमध्ये गेल्यामुळे त्या आपल्या वडिलांना अतिशय दुर्मिळ अशा कर्करोगातून बऱ्या करू शकल्या. कारण त्यावेळी त्या कर्करोगावर भारतात उपचार उपलब्ध नव्हते. त्यांनी आपल्या व्यवसायाने डॉक्टर असलेल्या एका काकांच्या मदतीने समन्वयातून अमेरिकेतील राष्ट्रीय आरोग्य संस्थेत (नॅशनल हेल्थ इन्स्टिट्यूट) आपल्या वडिलांवर उपचार केले. ज्यामुळे रीना यांचे वडील कर्करोग मुक्त होत पूर्णपणे बरे झाले. देवाच्या कृपेने आज ते 84 वर्षाची असून आरोग्यपूर्ण सुखी जीवन जगत आहेत. उदाहरणाद्वारे नेतृत्व करा, मालकी घ्या, अभिमान बाळगा, शिकण्याला मर्यादा घालू नका, स्वतःच्या चौकटीतून बाहेर पडा आणि आपण होऊन काम करण्यास म्हणजे स्वयंसेवी होण्यास घाबरू नका, हा डाॅ. रीना भाटिया यांचा आजच्या युवा पिढीला संदेश आहे.

Reena Bhatia, hails from a very prominent business family from Belgaum and is a resident of Hindwadi, Belgaum, and currently residing and working as an Entrepreneur and business owner in the United States Of America. Her parents, Mrs. & Mr. Ramesh Bhatia & her younger Amit Bhatia and his family live at their residence in Hindwadi, Belgaum. She completed her schooling from St. Mary’s High School, camp, Belgaum and completed her PUC I & II from Gogte College Of Commerce & left India for higher studies in the US in the year 1994. Once in the US, she completed her Bachelor’s degree in Management & Marketing from Tristate University in Indiana and after a few years of work, she did her Master’s degree in Public Policy from University of Maryland. Later on she went on to study at Babson college. She did her Doctorate (Ph.D) in Information Management Systems in 2019, from Walden University.

At the age of 15, she told her father that she wanted to go to Mumbai for higher studies and jokingly her father had replied “if you really want to go, go to America, which this girl took very seriously and started working on it. At the age of 17years she went to Mumbai (then Bombay) and went through the process and appeared for all the relevant exams. Later, accompanied by her father she went to Chennai (then Madras) since some officer for admission had come there. While speaking to Belgaum Live she remembers “So we went to Madras, did all the documentation, and finished all the formalities and came back. But after that there was no response from that office, and it was a forgotten issue. Then one day as a sudden surprise, we received a letter from them saying that I had been selected for admission, and so I ran happily, overwhelmed with joy to meet my father who was sitting in his office with a client. And I showed him the letter & told him that I had been selected for admission. The first reaction of my Papa was like “Which fool has selected you for admission” …. Because my Papa had thought who would consider a 17year old for admission.” And as promised her Papa was a man of his word. He did all that was needful and Reena flew to the US…And then began her journey in to the new world.

When speaking with Belgaum Live, when asked how it was when she first landed there and about her journey in the US in the last 30 years, she says she had all the euphoria and she was really excited as everything was new to her. But after 6 months she felt home sick and it was extremely difficult. Especially the food as she had been raised back home as a pure vegetarian and all she would get is salads and lettuce. The other big issue was the cold climate, and she says it was very cold and she saw snow for the very first time in her life and she was totally overwhelmed and bowled-over.
Today Reena owns two companies, and she is the founder of ‘Proposal Helper’ and CEO of ‘Bidexecs’. They have offices and employees in four countries of the world namely the US, India, Mexico and UAE, with around 100 employees. So far, they have written 3000 proposals and helped small businesses and her clients have secured contracts worth approximately 3000 billion dollars. She says “Not only that we have grown, but we have helped other businesses to grow too and they have created jobs and in turn we have helped the community.” She further says that when she left Belgaum, there was not much of an opportunity here and so decided to open up an office here and start a branch here providing job opportunities for the local youth. She says “I don’t want people to go away from home and stay away from their families as I had to do, so I decided to create jobs right here in Belgaum. That’s how I started my operations here in Belgaum and now we have planned for expansion shortly.”

One of the major achievements of her going to America was that she helped in curing her father from a very rare cancer which did not have treatment in India at that time. She with the help of one of here uncles, who is a doctor by profession, co-ordinated his treatment in America at the National Health Institute, which was conducting clinical trials at that time for this rare type of cancer. And her father was fully cured and by God’s grace is all fine and hail and hearty at the age of 84 years today.
Reena’s advice to young people is “Lead by example. Take ownership. Take pride. Don’t limit your learning. Step outside your box and don’t be afraid to volunteer.”
